Is sentient object smut having a moment?
As my colleagues and I cackled over all the early memes, I felt the need to point out that sentient object smut is an actual romance subgenre. And just like Wicker, they frequently serve a hefty dose of humor along with their spice. And then, of course, I fell down an NSFW rabbit hole.
So, in a twist I never saw coming, I’m going to dedicate this edition of Worth the Read to smut featuring inanimate objects that come to life. (No, I can’t believe I’m writing that, either.)

As odd as it may sound, this book has a cult following—it has more than 10k reviews on Amazon and almost 30k reviews on Goodreads! And, spoiler alert, the door is actually a dryad shifter who kind of gets stuck in door form, so there’s a little Greek mythology angle here. (Homer could never.) Readers tend to agree that this is totally bonkers, yet somehow completely delightful. Also, they can’t look at their doors the same way ever again.
