Hi, {{first_name | friend}}!
Summer blockbuster season is officially here, which means the year’s most anticipated superhero movies are starting to roll out, starting with Supergirl this weekend. I’ll be honest, I'm not really a superhero person. Or I wasn't—until James Gunn's Superman won me over last summer and temporarily suspended my superhero fatigue. So yes, I’ll be seated for Supergirl tonight!
Speaking of movies, if you’ve felt like there’s been fewer streaming original movies recently, you’re not imagining it. In today’s edition of Worth the Watch, 3 Reasons Why Streaming Movies Are Dying, I break down why we don’t see as many streaming original movies as we used to. Everything dropping this weekend is below—keep reading to stay in the know. Happy streaming!

The Reviews Are In
Sometimes, a great review sells a show better than any trailer. These are the three that caught our attention today.

“Apple TV's best detective series.”
—ScreenRant

“Better to savor from week to week, versus stacking up as a binge.”
—Consequence

“A ridiculously fun gay dating show.”

The Biggest Premieres of the Weekend
We’ve got a long-awaited sci-fi spectacle for comic book fans and a buddy-comedy on Netflix with an unlikely duo.

Supergirl
In theaters now
Milly Alcock plays a battle-scarred, grieving Kara Zor-El who gets dragged into an interstellar revenge mission after an adversary strikes too close to home. Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella) directs and Jason Momoa shows up as Lobo—which alone is reason enough to get to a theater this weekend.

Little Brother
Streaming now on Netflix
Rudd (John Cena), a real estate agent with a carefully controlled life, watches it unravel the moment his unhinged “little brother” Marcus (Eric Andre) reappears. This looks like the kind of wacky comedy that lets you shut your brain off after a long work week (complimentary).

Trailer of the Day
The Debut
When a shy housewife (Julianne Moore) is unexpectedly cast in a community theater production, she transforms into a full-blown method actor willing to do anything for her marginal role. Written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, this musical comedy is his follow-up to A Real Pain. That alone is reason enough to watch.

Top 5 Hidden Gem Modern Rom-Coms
#5. Palm Springs (2020)
Streaming on HBO Max
This Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti-led hidden gem got lost in the early-pandemic shuffle, which is a shame because it's one of the smartest rom-coms of the last decade. It's funny, surprisingly existential, unexpectedly romantic, and features one of my favorite uses of the time-loop trope ever put on screen. Plus, J. K. Simmons!
