Hi, {{first_name | friend}}!
Depending on where you live, the weather these past couple of weeks has been downright putrid. Here in NYC, we've had unsafe air quality, flash flood warnings, and even a tornado watch (which I didn't know was possible here). In other words: prime stay-inside-with-the-AC-and-a-good-book weather.
I'm still deep in the dungeon with Carl and Donut, but I took a quick break for another epic adventure. Over in today's Worth the Read, I've rounded up the best ancient and contemporary picks for anyone who left The Odyssey wanting more, plus the one translation I'd actually recommend if you're ready to tackle Homer.
Yours,
Genevieve

CONTEMPORARY FICTION SPOTLIGHT
Destination Funeral
by Paige Harbison
Groundhog Day meets Practical Magic in this “fun and sexy” (People) new novel from the author of The Other Side of Now. Four estranged friends reunite to settle the will of the woman who shaped their teenage summers, only to find themselves trapped in an endless weekend that forces them to confront the secrets that tore them apart. Grab the tissues, but don't forget your sense of humor, because this one balances grief with big laughs against a deliciously summery coastal backdrop.
HISTORICAL FANTASY SPOTLIGHT
Henry Tudor Must Die
by Jillian Laine
What if Henry VIII's wives got the last laugh? This wickedly entertaining fantasy reunites Anne Boleyn, Catherine of Aragon, and the rest of Henry VIII’s legendary queens for a magical revenge mission. Sharp, bloody, and outrageously fun, it's pure wish-fulfillment for history lovers and fans of the musical Six. As Emily Krempholtz puts it: “Henry Tudor Must Die is an exquisite declaration of female rage, sisterhood, and what it takes to stand against the abuse of power in a deeply unjust world."
