Hi, {{first_name | friend}}!
Welcome to our first-ever Movie Club edition of Worth the Watch! We’re kicking things off with an undeniable masterpiece: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. If you’ve never seen it, 1) where have you been? And 2) I’m jealous. I almost wish I could erase this film from my memory so I could experience it for the first time again—but by the end of this piece, you'll understand why that would be a mistake.
It's challenging to say anything new about a movie that is 22 years old, has been seen by millions, and is regarded as one of the greatest movies of the 21st century. But I'm up for the challenge! This is Worth the Watch, after all… So let’s get into it!
Eternal Sunshine is, in my opinion, the pinnacle of breakup movies. It’s always held a special place in my heart, as it was a transformative post-breakup viewing for me after my first heartbreak—I’m talking blinds-closed, ice-cream-in-lap, haven’t-left-the-apartment-in-three-days type of viewing experience. I remember sobbing throughout and immediately adding it to my “10/10 Perfect Movies - Wouldn’t Change a Thing” list.
Now, as a man in a healthy, stable relationship, I’m seeing the story from a new lens. What once felt like a movie about heartbreak now feels more like one about why heartbreak is worth surviving.🚨Warning: spoilers below!🚨
