Hi, {{first_name | friend}}!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! I know that summer doesn’t officially start until June 21st, but we’re all in agreement that this is now the summer season, right?

It’s funny, my definition of a “summer read” seems to change based on my own life season. Right now, my only requirement is that it can’t have a snowy, wintry setting. (Really high, original bar I’ve got there…)

What about you? What is a “summer” read by your standards?

Quick ask while I’ve got you (this is the last time I’ll ask, I promise!): we’ve made a handful of changes lately to the look and feel of these newsletters, and we’d love to know how it’s all landing. Share your thoughts here (it only takes 30 seconds)!

Books of the Moment

Some books define the moment because they’re new, and others because they’ve found their way back into the conversation. From buzzy releases to older titles gaining fresh attention through adaptations, rediscovery, and word of mouth, these are some of the stories everyone’s talking about right now.

Take Me To Your Leader

by Neil deGrasse Tyson

A fun, accessible book on aliens arriving right on the heels of Project Hail Mary and the NASA flight? Ding ding ding! Neil deGrasse Tyson hit the timing jackpot this time around, and the instant New York Times bestseller status proves it. I just finished the audiobook and can confidently say it was great. Through the lens of how humans have imagined, feared, and interpreted aliens across history, he ends up revealing far more about us than about anything “out there.” Leave it to Tyson to write a book that’s ostensibly about extraterrestrial life but is actually a perceptive look at humanity itself.

Broken Dove

by Dani Francis

Last year’s Silver Elite—the first in a brand-new dystopian romance series—was a huge hit, so lots of readers have been eagerly awaiting Broken Dove, the second in the series. Part of the series’s allure is that we don’t actually know who Dani Francis is; all we know is that the name is a pseudonym for “a New York Times bestselling writer who has published fiction under various pen names," according to her publisher. Regardless of whether you care about the mystery or not, this is a great series for anyone who prefers dystopia to fantasy but still craves adult romance.

More Like Dragonball $

People associate anime & manga with cartoons and comics. But they should be thinking of dollar signs. The global market’s worth $37B, projected to hit $60B by 2030. Which makes TOKYOPOP’s first investment opportunity for outside investors all the more exciting. TOKYOPOP helped bring anime & manga to the West ~30 years ago, becoming a $15M annual revenue business. Now, they’re scaling toward $50M in targeted 2030 revenue.
