Hi, {{first_name | friend}}!

Happy summer solstice! A few weeks ago, I asked you all what you considered a summer read, and I figured today is the perfect time to share some of those answers. Seems most of us agree that in the summer, we want something that’s lighter, sunnier, and more entertainment-forward. What do you think? Do these ring true to you, too?

  • “Typically, a light read. Nothing that makes you have to think too hard. Something that it's easy to stop and start without having to work too hard to slide right back into the book when you pick it up again.”

  • “Romance or rom-com, thrillers, and mysteries. Or fluffy non-fiction, such as a celebrity memoir.”

  • “A summer read must include:

    • Some sort of water body—pool, beach, etc.

    • Must be set in spring or summer

    • Be lighthearted

    • Short, ie, quick read”

  • “As a teacher who is busy all year, I want my summer read to be light and fun. I want it to feel like a warm summer day, sitting by the pool. I want the book to be something I can easily get lost in for hours. I’m a romance girl for sure, so I would always look for the romance aspect!”

Yours,

Books of the Moment

Some books define the moment because they’re new, and others because they’ve found their way back into the conversation. From buzzy releases to older titles gaining fresh attention through adaptations, rediscovery, and word of mouth, these are some of the stories everyone’s talking about right now. This week: Screen-to-page!

Death on the Lanai

by Rachel Ekstrom Courage

I’m a Golden Girls fanatic, so trust me when I tell you Rachel Ekstrom Courage absolutely nails it. These books are the closest we’ll ever get to new Golden Girls episodes. Full of sharp one-liners, cheesecake-fueled sleuthing, and all the charm of the beloved foursome, this cozy mystery is an absolute delight.

Stranger Things, Season Three: The Junior Novelization

by Matthew J. Gilbert

These junior novelizations are a fun way for younger readers to experience the world of Stranger Things without getting too scared. This book retells Season 3, bringing all the mystery, adventure, and suspense of Hawkins to the page in a format that's perfect for younger readers. And if they enjoy it, the fourth book arrives this July.
